This may seem like a simple side dish (and it is in that it’s easy to make) but don’t let it fool you—it’s so much more than that! If you frequent Chinese restaurants, you might have tried this delicious side dish alongside classic Chinese cuisine. They are even better when you save money by making this simple side dish at home. And a big bonus if you grow your own green beans!
The Best Chinese Green Beans Recipe
These are the best green beans because it’s the perfect side dish! It requires only a few simple ingredients but offers so much great flavor. These tender green beans are lathered in garlic sauce with an umami flavor. This Chinese green bean recipe makes a tasty side dish to pair with your favorite Asian dishes. If you want spicy green beans add a little spice with red pepper flakes. It’s such an easy recipe, you’re going to wonder why you haven’t made it sooner!
How to Make Chinese Green Beans
Heat a large skillet with olive oil over medium high heat. Lightly brown garlic in the hot oil and then add the fresh green beans. Reduce to medium heat. Stir often. Add regular soy sauce and oyster sauce and mix. Reduced-sodium soy sauce can also work. For exact measurements, see the recipe card at the bottom of this post. Once tender, turn off the stove. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top (optional but gives a good crunch), and serve over rice (or however you want). Enjoy!
Storing/Reheating Leftovers
Store leftover Chinese green beans in an airtight container and in the refrigerator. If stored properly, they will last up to two to three days. Microwave: Place in microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute. You can check after 30 seconds to see if they are warm enough. Skillet: Cook over medium heat until green beans are warm and tender. Don’t forget to stir and flip. Oven: If you’re reheating in the oven, set it to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 15 minutes.
Can I add meat along with green beans?
Absolutely. You can add cooked chicken, beef, bacon, ham (especially good for leftover ham) or shrimp. I would add this when you add in the soy sauce and oyster sauce, and cook until it’s heated.
How to Serve Chinese Green Beans
We unusually serve Chinese Green Beans over white rice, or next to lo mein noodles. I always like to add sesame seeds on top for a nice crunch! You can make it a full Chinese buffet meal and serve it with Chicken and Broccoli, General Tso’s Chicken, Chinese Pepper Beef and Wonton Soup.
