Green Tomato Jam Recipe
I love this tomato jam so much! It’s sweet. It smells so good. It brings me Summer time joy spreading it on toast in the morning, especially in the Winter when I open up a jar I canned.
Green tomatoes don’t get enough love I think. They are so versatile and can be used in similar ways that red tomatoes are used. I make green tomato sauce (for spaghetti), green tomato pie (tastes like apple pie), green tomato soup and so many more green tomato recipes.
This green tomato jam can be stored in the refrigerator, or canned to make it last all year. Spread it on toast or a grilled cheese sandwich, add to cheese and crackers or just use a spoon – I hope you try it! This will make (2) 1 pint jars of green tomato jam.
Ingredients
Green Tomatoes, about 6-7 large tomatoes White Sugar Brown Sugar Salt Dried Rosemary, the taste is not overwhelming, but it adds something special so please include it! Lemon Juice
How to Make Tomato Jam
Cut tomatoes into eighths or quarters, this will be easier for the food processor. Pulse them in the food processor until a chunky puree forms. Add the green tomatoes into a medium/large pot, along with white sugar, brown sugar, salt, rosemary and lemon juice. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer, stirring often until a thick jam forms. This takes anywhere from 35-45 minutes. Just make sure to stir it to prevent the bottom from burning. Carefully (it’s hot!) pour into mason jars and let the jars sit on your counter for 1 hour to cool. Place in the refrigerator where it will stay good for 1 month, or can them to preserve for later (directions below).
How to Serve Tomato Jam
Serve on toast or a thick piece of crockpot bread. Serve on scones for breakfast, brunch or afternoon snack. I love it on fancy crackers with slices of cheese. Add to grilled cheese sandwiches or cucumber sandwiches, along with slices of fresh roma tomatoes.
