Once you make your own homemade brown sugar, good luck on wanting to buy it in the store again. I get it, buying a bag of brown sugar in the store is pretty cheap and easy, but homemade brown sugar tastes SO much better. Here’s my step by step instructions to make light brown sugar in your own kitchen. You’re going to be shocked by how easy it is!
Ingredients
White Sugar Molasses
How to Make 1 Cup Brown Sugar
Combine 1 cup white sugar + 1 tablespoon molasses in a small bowl.
Mix quickly with a fork until fluffy. Use as instructed.
How to Make 1/2 Cup
Combine 1 /2 cup white sugar + 1 1/2 teaspoon molasses in a small bowl. Mix with a fork until fluffy.
How to Make Dark Brown Sugar
The recipes above are for light brown sugar but if you need dark brown sugar, that’s easy too. Just double the molasses and you’ll get a richer dark brown sugar.
How to Store
Store homemade brown sugar in a glass jar with tight fitting lid or plastic bag that completely seals. Place in your kitchen cabinet and use within 6 months. Tip: Hate when your brown sugar clumps up when storing it? Add a marshmallow inside the jar and it’ll keep it soft! I hope this helps you next time you need brown sugar but realize you’re all out!
